How to be the Key to Your Own Success

Man With No Arm And No Legs

Think Positive

I want you to think of all the people that are around you. People you see every day and the people that post on your Facebook news feed. Now out of all the chaos that you see every day. Who are the people that are achieving their goals and expectations they set. It’s funny to me that the people that post everyday about their life sucks so bad, or nothing ever goes in their favor, are usually the ones that aren’t achieving their goals or doing anything with their lives. And the people that are posting about how they love their lives, or how they are happy, are usually the ones that are achieving success.

In a small town dreams and goals that you have growing up are usually put aside because of the people you fill your life with. And I’m sure that this goes for everyone not just people in small town; that is just where I’m from. Most times when someone is achieving their goals they will be ridiculed for what they are doing. When someone is doing badly, people tell them it’s going to be ok, that things will work itself out. And when you’re doing great, people will say how you shouldn’t be giving in to such dreams of success, or what I’ve heard “get a real job and stop thinking you can make it”, or “that stuff doesn’t happen”.

People naturally don’t like when someone is doing better than they are doing. It’s a human instinct to ridicule someone when they are doing great. Envy and jealousy are a bad mix that people subconsciously think about and you can see it in people’s words.

Success In Action

Look at Tim Tebow; he has to be one of the greatest athletes and a testament to success by being yourself. Tim Tebow is one of the most highly ridiculed athletes for being himself. So the guy doesn’t want to have sex till he is married and he don’t just give into the media. They ran a website saying that if you could have proof of having sex with Tebow that you would be rewarded a million dollars. People will go to any extent to bring someone down that is achieving the success at which they want for their selves. Even with all that Tebow is still the same happy-go-lucky guy, and a great spiritual and successful leader that he will always be.

If you really want success, and you’re willing to do what is necessary to get there, then I have a few tips for you. Get up off the couch, stop whining and complaining about everyone and everything. Whenever you have free time work toward your dreams and goals instead of sitting around doing nothing. Don’t think you are the only one that is going through hard times. Do you really think that every big star became successful because they had it handed to them? I’m sure that some do but I’m going to take a shot in the dark that they had struggles just like everyone else. Nobody makes it without taking the necessary steps it takes to achieve their dreams.

People that want that beach body but can’t find the time to work out upset me more than most. You really can’t find 30 minutes a day to work out? More than likely that is an excuse because they are lazy. If you want that beach body bad enough, don’t change what you’re doing tomorrow, change right then.

My friends and I all wanted to get in better shape, most of us were in decent shape anyway, but we wanted to look better. Thing is we all loved to play video games as well, but let's put 2 and 2 together. If we were playing call of duty, after ever match, however many deaths we had we doubled the number and did that many pushups, and then the next match it was sit-ups. One of two things is going to happen, either you get in a little bit better shape which will only make you want to work out more when you’re not playing games, or two you become a pro at the game and will make it in the big leagues of gaming which every guy dreams about. Most likely it’s going to be the first one but you never know, guess that would depend on what your dreams are. After we had been doing that for a while we started doing P90X. This is a tough workout but we could do it after getting in the workout mode of wanting to workout all the time. Getting past that first month is crucial, because after the first month its more of a habit to go workout and you'll love the soreness that you feel.

A good reference for this working is Herschel Walker. When he was younger he didn’t have weights or anything. The guy wasn’t in shape in high school but got the idea that he would do pushups and sit-ups when a commercial came on to TV. His next high school year he went out for the track team and became the fastest guy in school. The guy is now 50 years old and still does 1500 pushups and 2000 sit-ups a day! He has achieved success in many different ways. He was also one of the greatest college football players of all time and made it to the pros. He didn’t do it by just dreaming; he dreamed and put his dreams into action. But let’s get back to the topic at hand.

Number one thing to achieve the success you want is to be honest with yourself as well. If you want to be a big star singer, and then ask yourself, do I really sing well? It goes back to the second paragraph, when people are telling you that you are great is usually when you need to step back and find out the truth. Look at how many people find out the truth on American Idol. Now I know sometimes American Idol has turned down some great singers, but look at all the people that go that can’t sing a lick. But if singing is still what you want to do then start dreaming big. Don’t just see the dream, live the dream.

One of my favorite books for this is called “The Secret”. It talks about the law of attraction and how it all works. If you really want something in your life, you not only have to dream about it every day but you have to envision that you are going to have it and that it is already yours. I’m telling you right now if you do that, without giving in to the “dark side”, you will have your dreams or close to it. If I was to dream about being a basketball star but ended up being a sports analyst for a TV station then I’d say I achieved a great success. Some people are just not born with the god given ability to play a professional sport.

I leave it with this, I have known some really terrible singers that instead of complaining about how bad off it is they went out and practiced. They kept practicing and kept practicing every day to train their voice to be better. Trust me after a few months they didn’t even sound like the same person and I didn’t have to plug my ears every time I was in a car with them. And it takes time; you’re not going to practice a few weeks and then be great at anything. Same goes for that beach body or anything else you want. You can’t do something for a few weeks and expect to reach your goals. That beach body could take up to six months to achieve. But think of it this way. In six months you know that you’re going to get in the workout mode again and then you’re going to look back and say well if I wouldn’t have quit and kept working out till now, I would have already reached my goals and then you would be on to a much bigger goal. Don’t stop when something gets tough.

Body Builder Best Body Competition

Pushing Past Failure

You think that body builder got there by quitting every three months and eating junk food? No, he/she trained for years to get there. He/she put in a lot of sweat to get to their form of success. Hundreds upon hundreds of hours in the gym getting to that top physique. You think Taylor Swift got there by singing at home and telling herself that someone will just up and find her? No, she turned on her webcam and recorded it for the world to hear. You think Michael Jordan arguably one of the best athletes of all time got there by practicing a few days a week? No, he trained every day and worked on his jump shot. Michael Jordan quoted. "I've missed more than 9000 shots in my career. I've lost almost 300 games. 26 times, I've been trusted to take the game winning shot and missed. I've failed over and over and over again in my life. And that's why i succeed."

Who is more successful? Based on your definition of success.

See results

You think Bill Gates become one of the richest men in the world without working as hard as he could? No, he failed, lost everything and then built his empire. Not many people can fail like Bill Gates did and then pick their self-back up to try again. Kip Moore was in his early 20's when he set out to be a country music star, they told him that if he didn’t change his look that he’d never make it and that his sound was good but not great. Did he stop just cause someone told him he wasn’t good enough? No, he kept practicing and pushing forward and at the age of 32 he finally made it to be a great country music star. Now was all them years’ worth it? I think anyone would agree if it took them even 8 years to become famous that it would be worth it.

If you fail a hundred times that only means you have a hundred reasons why it didn’t work but finally one why it did. Thomas Edison quoted "I have not failed. Ive just found 10,000 ways that wont work." Keep practicing and keep dreaming of what you want in this life. Good thoughts bring what you want in your mind into real life, while bad thoughts just make things in real life that much worse. Keep thinking of success for yourself, because you are what you think you will be. Also remember success to you might be different than success to me. Everyone has their own opinion on success. Success can be from achieving a goal. Success can also be from losing a certain amount of weight. There are so many forms of success.

"If you think you can, you can. And if you think you cant, you're right." Quoted By Mary Kay Ash founder of Mary Kay Cosmetics
